RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS at Comic Con 2005

It's that time of year again for fans to gather at the biggest Genre convention of all, Comic-Con! Held annually in San Diego, California - this is the Mother of all Cons. And the third year in a row RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS will have a large presence.

In 2003, RINGERS shared TheOneRing.net's booth in the huge "Lord of the Rings" pavilion. Some of you may remember the Confessional Booth and that the cameras were everywhere! (Who can forget the web-cam debut of "TanPants?") Last year, in 2004 RINGERS hosted a panel with author Peter S. Beagle where roughly 2500 fans cheered at the first sneak peak of this documentary. But for Comic-Con 2005, there are some special things in store for you! [For full article click HERE.]

RINGERS Wins Award at Newport Beach Film Festival

Spaced Out - The Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner

Newport Beach Film Festival Director Greg Schwenk and Carlene Cordova.

It was a genuinely exciting night. The bright lights and big city Hollywood energy permeated the entire Awards Night Ceremony held by the Newport Beach Film Festival, which were held Friday, April 29th.

Making a strong statement as the little–indie–documentary–that–could, RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS took home an award for “Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking.”   The filmmakers were thrilled and shocked to be lauded onstage by none other than world famous sports agent, Lee Steinberg (the man behind the character Tom Cruise played in "Jerry McGuire").  Mr. Steinberg generously praised RINGERS for reminding him of his wilder teenage hippie days in the Sixties when “The Lord of the Rings” was an exploding phenomenon that transformed the youth culture of Southern California.

Director Carlene Cordova stood on stage, graciously inviting the present members of the production team to join her.  Many of them appeared fatigued -- having worked outrageously long hours through a nightmare week of final post-production. Carlene and Cliff, Josh (Tan Pants), Jeff, Catherine, and John had made a strenuous, last-minute effort to have the perfect version of the film ready for back-to-back premieres of RINGERS within days of each other, at Newport Beach and immediately following at the USA Film Festival in Dallas.  The results paid off, certainly, as they stood before a roaring audience and accepted the gorgeous Award (finely stenciled leaded glass that captures light rather like a certain Phial). Download "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"

Spaced Out - The Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner

Spaced Out - The Very Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shanter - One feel good album!

Many who've seen RINGERS have remarked upon the trippy, hippie, surreal music video of Leonard Nimoy singing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins." Once viewed, the images of wholesome go-go dancers with grotesque pointy ears and Spock in peg-legged white pants get seared into your memory banks. Well kids, now you can legally download this song for a mere $.99 US in the iTunes music store! Do yourselves a favor, spring for the entire album. ($11.99) You'll be thanking yourself as tears of laughter roll down your cheeks. Shatner's "Mr. Tambourine Man" is legendary, but his "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is even better! Who wouldn't want to hear Nimoy sing Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line?" iTunes works on both Macs and Windows and is a free download. God bless the swinging '60's! YEAH BABY!

Ringers on x96 Salt Lake City Live Radio!

FEBRUARY 5, 2005 -- So there we are mid-festival week in Park City at the exclusive William Morris party and all we can think of is to get out of there, go back to our log cabin and get some sleep. Our schedule was quite intense and we did not expect all the attention that we (Ringers: Lord of the Fans) were receiving. We were exhausted. Cliff and I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to do a live radio interview on x96 - Salt Lake City’s “Local, Independent, Alternative Radio from Hell.” A very progressive and hip station indeed. Carlene couldn’t attend the interview because of our 9:00am Press Screening that same day back in Park City. She had to introduce the film with Tom DeSanto and do an equipment check with Josh Mandel.

Greetings Fellow Ringers!
May 10, 2004 - Carlene Cordova

Taa Daaa!!! I'd like to proudly unveil our new logo. Isn't it cool? Our very talented Art Director, Nancy Steinman, designed it. Soon you'll be able to purchase this logo on hats and t-shirts in our new Ringers store! Wee!!!

I also wanted to give everyone a brief update on the progress of our film. A lot of exciting things have happened and are happening lately. We've started the post-production process. In a documentary you sort of do things backwards, you write the script AFTER you've shot the movie. (Of course you must have a good outline while shooting or you don't know what to shoot…but anyway.) So we are in the process of polishing our final script and we've done some rough cuts of some bits of the film. It all looks pretty great!

We've been shooting for a while (about a year and a half, really.) But, some of the more famous Ringers that we've always wanted to interview weren't available until lately. We're currently shooting these interviews. We'll be announcing their participation in the following weeks.

Our plan is to finish the film in time for its premiere at a film festival in the fall.

Thanks for your patience and please log on to the message boards [link to message boards] for more information or to just say Hi!

Sincerely,

Carlene Cordova
