'Now we had better get home ourselves,' said Merry.
'There's something funny about all this, I see; but it must wait till we get in.'
If there was ever a chapter to get clipped from the screenplay (someone PLEASE slip that to me!) it's this one. Not in any way a bad chapter, just a bit useless. The story is not pushed in any way that cannot be included in previous scenes, Frodo's friends tell him that they have known all along about his quest, and that they plan to go with him until the bitter end. This could very well have been done in the forest with the Elves, or at Maggots house, on the road, on the ferry whenever.
Speaking of the ferry, that's a beautiful little (non) introduction of Gollum. PJ can do something great with that scene. Gollum, in the mist on the far end of the bank, slipping away in the darkness!
I know you've all heard that Gollum will be a total CGI character (A La Jar Jar Binks) I think this is an amazing innovative idea. The first time I read this book I pictured Gollum as this immaciated, leathery, insect-like creature, who do you think could possibly play this character? Honestly no one. I cannot wait to see some concept art!
