TORN TV: Lord of the Rings News for the Visual Age
Hobbit in 5 – Dwarves and Bilbo Make First Press Appearance
On this episode of Hobbit in 5 The Dwarves and Bilbo make there first
press appearance since arriving in New Zealand a month ago. Also Sir
Christopher Lee receives a Bafta Award, location scouting, character
studies and much much more! Ok so maybe it ran a little long this week

Official Hobbit Casting Call For Elves
An official casting call for Elves in the upcoming Hobbit films has
been posted at TradeMe.co.nz. The production is looking for tall and
slender people to play Elven Horse Riders and Elven Extras. The age
and height requirements according to gender have been given as
* Men aged 17 – 40 with a height of 6ft (183cm) and taller.
* Women aged 17 – 40 with a height of 5ft 9 (175cm) and taller.
The venue for the casting call is the Te Whaea – National Dance and
Drama Centre, 11 Hutchinson Rd, Newtown, Wellington, and it’s to take
place on Saturday, 26th February 2011 from 9:30 am – 12:00 noon and
from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm.
Donato Giancola: Drawn to Middle-earth
Middle Earth: Visions of a Modern MythDonato Giancola’s artwork will
be familiar to many readers of TORn. His paintings have been used as
the covers for many books, including the Science Fiction Book Club’s
combined edition of The Lord of the Rings. Recently, he published a
volume which brings together many of his Middle Earth depictions. If
you haven’t yet seen Giancola’s gorgeous book Middle Earth: Visions of
a Modern Myth, then you’ve missed a treat. Crammed with beautiful
prints of his paintings and sketches inspired by Tolkien’s writing,
the book includes fascinating comments and up close images of details
from Giancola’s amazing pictures
Sacred Mountains off limits to ‘Hobbit’ Production
The stark cone of Mt Ngauruhoe played a leading role in Peter
Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, featuring as a smouldering Mt
Doom. Now, only five weeks out from the scheduled start of filming for
The Hobbit prequel, local Maori are set to put their foot down and
refuse permission for the Oscar-winning director to use the central
North Island mountains again. The iwi considered them sacred. In The
Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins and his entourage journey through the Misty
Mountains on their way to confront the dragon Smaug at the Lonely
