FOTR Score at RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL!!
December 18, 2008 — New York, NY — Devoted fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic
The Lord of the Rings have read the books, they’ve seen Peter Jackson’s
Academy® Award-winning films, and now they will have a chance to experience
composer Howard Shore’s Academy® and Grammy®-winning score to The Fellowship
of the Ring live at Radio City Music Hall on Friday, October 9th and
Saturday October 10th. For this extraordinary event, 300 musicians—a
75-piece orchestra and a 225-member choir—have been gathered to perform the
complete score to 2001’s The Fellowship of the Ring live with the motion
picture on a massive screen towering above the stage.

Rumors Abound - Hobbit Delayed until 2012? FALSE
Rumors are hitting the web today that the release of The Hobbit will not be
until 2012. We are trying to independently confirm/deny this rumor so look
for an update shortly! Thanks to the Ringers who are sending in the links to
various news stories on the topic. Here’s a link to Yahoo! UK. We have
received confirmation from the source of all sources, GDT himself stating
that this rumor is NOT TRUE. Rest easy folks, it’s not happening.

Have you guys seen this new hands-on footage of LOTR: Conquest? It looks
insanely fun, this is a hands-on with X=Xplay (G4 TV), and it reveals some
new details about the game, such as a plan for lots of downloadable content.
The game releases on January 13.

Blanchett catches the light of Eärendil’s, errr, Hollywood’s star
Like 2,735 actors before her, Cate Blanchett has had her name cemented on a
sidewalk in Hollywood, outside of the Egyptian Theatre. Steven Spielberg
introduced the regal beauty who said, “This is utterly incredible to me,”
during the footpath ceremony. You can search for news stories and find a lot
of options but I thought the Sydney Morning Hearld’s website seemed
appropriate for the native Australian. Read one account right here.

Sci-fi’s grand old man, Forrest J Ackerman, dies
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Forrest J Ackerman, the sometime actor, literary agent,
magazine editor and full-time bon vivant who discovered author Ray Bradbury
and was widely credited with coining the term “sci-fi,” has died. He was 92.
Ackerman died Thursday of heart failure at his Los Angeles home, said Kevin
Burns, head of Prometheus Entertainment and a trustee of Ackerman’s estate.
Although only marginally known to readers of mainstream literature, Ackerman
was legendary in science-fiction circles as the founding editor of the pulp
magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland. He was also the owner of a huge
private collection of science-fiction movie and literary memorabilia that
for years filled every nook and cranny of a hillside mansion overlooking Los
Angeles.

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
