Forummer diedye posted this piece of news from Empire: Speaking at a special
screening of The Dark Knight at London’s Imax cinema on Monday night, he
[Ian McKellen] said: “Well, I haven’t had the contract yet but it’s everyone

The Lake Town Volunteer Fire Department Shirt!
We reported earlier this week that we would be featuring a brand new TORn
and Weta t-shirt at Comic-Con. [Comic-Con Shirt] It should be noted however,
that the Comic-Con shirt was not the only design TORn has been working on
the last few months. So without further delay, we are proud to premiere our
‘Lake Town Volunteer Fire Department‘ shirt! The shirt, pictured on the
right, is deep red with the TORn logo on the front and the LTFD logo on the
back.

Tolkien Postcard Discovered at Demolition Site
A few weeks back, Stephen Malton of Prodem Demolition contacted TORn to
inform us he was in the process of demolishing ‘Woodridings,’ a bungalow
owned by J.R.R. Tolkien and his wife Edith. His company is planning on
selling pieces of this historic location to Tolkien fans. During the
demolition, Mr. Malton found three postcards, with one addressed to J.R.R.
Tolkien himself from 1968. Obviously an amazing find! We were waiting to
hear more about his discovery, but it looks like the news has hit
internationally! Thanks to all the Ringers who sent in the links to the
story. For the complete details please click on one of the link, and stay
tuned to TORn for news on the auction and sale of items from ‘Woodridings.’

GDT talks ‘Hellboy 2? and another ‘H’ movie - with TORn!
In its request for an interview with Guillermo del Toro about “Hellboy 2:
The Golden Army,” TORn promised there would be no questions about “The
Hobbit.” After all, the man who was working on three hours of sleep, is on a
media blitz for his second film about a red skinned demon-spawn-do-gooder
that files his horns down to “help him fit in” with Jane and Joe Average.

Academy of Motion Pictures “Great to be Nominated” FOTR Screening Report!
Garfeimao writes: The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences has been
doing a film series called “Great to be Nominated” which features the film
from each year that received the most nominations while not winning one of
the major awards. So, 2002 was Fellowship of the Ring, which did win 4
Academy Awards, but none of them in the major categories. The host did
mention that the filmmakers were in the unique position of re-dressing that
issue 2 years later, when Return of the King won all 11 awards it was
nominated for.

TORn featured as AMC ‘SciFi Scanner’ Site of the Week
TheOneRing.net would like to thank our readers for helping us to be
considered for AMC’s SciFi Scanner Blog Site of the Week. In the article,
written by Carolyn Koo, TORn co-owner Calisuri talks a bit about the
upcoming hobbit films, the history of TORn and more. We’d like to thank AMC
for choosing TORn and recognizing our community!

Hobbit Director del Toro Talks Cast, Creatures
(E! Online) - The two movies based on the Lord of the Rings prequel, The
Hobbit, may be a long ways off—hang on until 2011 and 2012, nerds!—but they’
re pretty much all Mexican director Guillermo del Toro gets to talk about
these days. Sure, he’s out promoting this summer’s comic book flick Hellboy
II: The Golden Army, but, like, what’s up with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf and
that dragon?

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
