Rings Roundup (Top headlines of major interest)
---------------------------------------------------

Children of Hurin Chat on May 6th!
After a long break, Hall of Fire finally returns to host a discussion on the
very recently released Children of Hurin. Scrupulously edited together from
JRR's manuscripts by Christopher Tolkien, the tragic tale of Hurin's
children is not new to many fans of Tolkien's writings, having been
previously revealed in one form or another in the Silmarillion, Unfinished
Tales and the History of Middle Earth. However, Children of Hurin presents
the tale without the severe abridgement of the Silmarillion, or the
confusing annotated form that is present in Unfinished Tales and HOME.

Will the £25m Lord Of The Rings musical be a monster hit?
For a fictional world boasting ten kingdoms, endless mountain ranges and an
enchanted forest or two, Middle Earth is hot, dark and surprisingly cramped.
There's an ashen-faced Gandalf, a grumpy-looking Saruman and a balding
Aragorn busy exchanging flirty glances with a gorgeous Arwen. Four fat
hobbits adjust their false bottoms and make puerile jokes.

HAPPY ANZAC DAY! More 'Crossing The Line' Images!
DANE sends along 3 more images from Peter Jackson's short 'Crossing the
Line', which started life out as test footage for a new camera Peter was
offered to play with. Take a look at the rest of the images here. Meanwhile,
Ringer Spy Taniwha writes: There is a 30s clip (and the full credits) for
'Crossing The Line' at reduser.net, it is a 93MB download for thirty seconds
of action, though!

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
