An Evening with Peter Jackson Reports
Aussie and Maria Layne were two of the very lucky folks to spend an 'evening
with Peter Jackson' last night in Sydney. Peter was very candid about his
work on LOTR..and more importantly...he showed a BLOOPER REEL!!! Take a
look!

The Hobbit 'at least 3yrs away'
Oscar winning director Peter Jackson says it will be at least three years
before he shoots The Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit. Jackson this
weekend took a break from his busy schedule filming King Kong in Auckland,
stopping by Sydney's Powerhouse Museum to check out the Lord of the Rings
(LOTR) exhibition. Tonight, the very private director will give a talk to
fans about his films at the State Theatre. A slimmed-down Jackson, who
arrived in Sydney yesterday, was asked today how long it would be before he
started production on The Hobbit. "Three or four years would be accurate, I
would say," Jackson said.

More Details on PJ/New Line Lawsuit
>From the Sunday Star Times: Film Director Peter Jackson wants a jury to
decide whether The Lord of the Rings distributor New Line Cinema "wilfully,
wantonly and maliciously" cheated him out of profits. Jackson's production
company, Wingnut Films, is suing New Line and its subsidiary Katja Motion
Pictures, for allegedly failing to account for profits from the first film
in the trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. A film
industry expert believes the claim could run to tens of millions of dollars,
with any outcome being used to settle claims for the two other Rings movies.

Syndey WETA Lecture Report
Jess writes: Hello hello! I’ve already told you guys about The Hobbit news
from the Sydney Weta Workshop Lecture on Sunday February 27th, and I thought
you’d like to hear about the rest of the lecture. Forgive the length, but
there is much to tell! After an introduction from Powerhouse Museum staffer
and LotR exhibition curator Kerrie Dougherty (fully decked out in Elvish
garb), Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger, enjoying a sneaky weekend away from
the King Kong set, walked onto the stage amid tumultuous applause from the
few hundred Lord of the Rings fans gathered in the Coles Theatre.

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
