Folks,
As some of you are no doubt aware, development with Barliman's Bash has =
been rather odd this year. Media reports concerning SARS did a great =
deal to slacken interest, and at this point, attendance looks to be =
significantly lower than originally expected.
This creates a problem for me as the organiser. In March, I contracted =
with the Courtyard by Marriott, Downtown Toronto as the hotel in which =
the Bash was to be based. Getting a stable price set, and sufficient =
space reserved, involves a legally binding document which stipulates =
penalties should the event fall significantly short of anticipated =
attendance and revenue for the hotel.
As a result, with the way things currently stand regarding attendance =
figures (particularly the number of rooms booked), I will personally owe =
the hotel approximately $7,000.00 US after all is said and done - a =
figure that I can hardly afford.
The only way to reduce this figure is to increase attendance, and to =
fill more rooms - and the hotel has given me until July 11th to do so. =
So, if any of you have been vacillating, waiting 'til the last minute, =
etc - now is the time to act.
I don't want anybody to attend the Bash out of a sense of guilt or =
obligation - but if you've been giving it thought anyway, I hope that =
you'll decide to attend. More information is available at the usual =
address, http://www.theonering.net/barlimans/barlibash/2003/.
On a somewhat related note - even if you don't plan to attend, please =
keep in mind that t-shirts are available for order, thanks to the talent =
of Barlimans' Formula409. Information on the shirts can be found at =
http://www.theonering.net/barlimans/barlibash/2003/tshirt.html.
I thank you all for reading this, and hope that there are still some of =
you who are interested, but haven't yet reserved a room. Please let me =
know if you *do* reserve a room, or contact me with any questions at =
curunir@theonering.net.
Yours,
Curunir
