Goodbye, Reading Room!  I remember when
Message:

you were just a wordish and phraseish twinkle in the eye of some first-agers.  Then you grew and moved from the bassinet of the Main Board and into your own Room.  Months and years of new posters and posts added to your growth and store of knowledge.  Now you are a full-fledged adult forum with a new room waiting for you in New TORN!
*raises glass*  cheers!

I for one am glad NEB will still be giving us links so we can visit here as needed, as I hate to see the old girl go out with the tide...much as I know that it's the PEOPLE who make a community, I'll still miss the old gathering spot.

As I said below:

good-bye to you and to you and to you and to me and to all that

The Lost Mod Power: An Elegy (with apologies to Wordsworth)

What though the mod power which was once so bright
Be now repeatedly taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the stats, of glory in the power,
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind.

Goodbye old friend.

-----------------------------
Now news came to Hithlum that Dorthonion was lost and the sons of Finarfin overthrown, and that the sons of Feanor were driven from their land. Then Fingolfin beheld (as it seemed to him) the utter ruin of the Noldor, and the defeat beyond redress of all their houses; and filled with wrath and despair he mounted upon Rochallor his great horse and rode forth alone, and none might restrain him. He passed over Dor-nu-Fauglith like a wind amid the dust, and all that beheld his onset fled in amaze, thinking that Orome himself was come: for a great madness of rage was upon him, so that his eyes shone like the eyes of the Valar. Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth to single combat. And Morgoth came.

I wanted to bow in reverence to this Room and the incredible voices that echo here.  While I haven't posted much, I've always been so impressed with the brilliant thoughts and expressions here.  I'm delighted that this will carry on in our new room... but this place is certainly enchanted.

Cheers to one and all... and thank you!

*sniff* This is where I got my start on TORn
Message:

I found TORn early in the Spring of 2001 and almost immediately started lurking on all of the boards, but it was the RR that really captured my heart. My first post was here (not sure exactly when), and I spent several months here before I ventured a post on another board (Main, I think). But, this board was my home and my touchstone for months.

Thank you, RR! Almost all of the names have changed, but thanks go out to all the regulars of old and all the regulars who have taken their place (in new chairs, of course - RR regulars never lose their chairs). ;-)

*hugs old RR board*

It's eerily quiet here now. Just one last look around - now who left that broken glass in the fireplace? Someone up to no good, I'll warrant!
