...right here in this thread as a matter of fact. Below is a short synopsis of
the chapters you mentioned – but it’s gonna cost you. ;-)
The Taming of Smeagol (17 pages) – from Frodo and Sam entering the Emyn Muil to
them setting off for Mordor with Smeagol as their guide. Includes Frodo “losing
his sight” traversing down the wall, Sam’s “magic” rope returning to him,
capturing Gollum and Frodo making Gollum swear on the precious.
The Passage of the Marshes (16 pages) – picks up from where “The Taming of
Smeagol” ends and goes to just before they reach the Black Gate. Includes
Gollum choking on the lembas Frodo tries to give him, the conversation about
how much food they have and whether they’ll return from Mt. Doom, seeing the
lights and the dead in the water, and the Nazgul flying overhead.
Journey to the Crossroads (9 pages) – From Faramir sending Sam and Frodo on
their way to the crossroads where they see the crown of flowers on the head of
the statue. Includes the empty lands in Ithilien and the darkness starting to
flow from Mordor.
Shelob’s Lair (10 pages) – From where Frodo, Sam and Gollum enter the tunnel to
when Frodo runs up the path thinking they’ve escaped from Shelob, and Sam is
ambushed by Gollum before he can stop him. Includes Gollum seemingly abandoning
them in the tunnel, Frodo using the Phial of Galadriel when they first
encounter Shelob, Frodo and Sam’s brave advance on the monster and Sting’s
ability to cut through the cobwebs.
Hope that helps you to decide (and hope your vacation is going
well).
