I had not thought about Beren being the ringbearer, but that's an interesting
thought. I was more thinking of the Lúthien at Minas Tirith situation where
Lúthien waltzes into Mordor, blows the Dark Tower to smitherenes, and then
watzes out. Of course, that would be a story in itself; Lúthien clearly
couldn't just waltz in, but if she got in the right place at the right time,
she could do something like that. ;)
Another possibility with the reincarnation gig: B&L do "fade", apparently die,
in their second lives, but there is no inkling in BoLT that their second lives
are their last lives. I suppose that it might be exactly the same story, with
Aragorn as Beren reborn and Arwen as Lúthien reborn (I wonder if Tolkien ever
thought about that one? Clearly, he was thinking of the two of them as the same
story retold). Actually, the story wouldn't be the same - Lúthien would not sit
at home in Rivendell the way Arwen does (even Arwen in the movie is not as
active as Lúthien would be).
Anyhow, nice thoughts!
p.s. I have been busy travelling and so haven't written up the next installment
of questions. Those I will do this evening.
