Tolkien makes it clear that any honor frodo is given is brief, and not
replicated in his own homeland...it is in fact one of the bitter touches that
makes LOTR a very modern tale.
a tradtional honoring of a hero implies the honor will last the ages...
i find an interesting parallel in the fact that there are tons of large and
glorious monuments all over the Western Front, where the battles took place,
but markedly fewer (yes, they are there, but despite some exceptions overall
smaller and less well-tended)in the lands (England, US, NZ,etc.) that many of
the soldiers came
from.
