I have pondered how much Tolkien knew about Lawrence since they lived both in
Oxford shortly after the war.
I have the feeling (I am wrong?) that some hardships encountered by T.E.
Lawrence are in a way similar to Frodo's own trials. I think particularly of
their brief captivity, the "failure" feeling and the impossibility to lead a
normal life again.
And of course both write their memoirs.
A mere
coincidence?

"Books ought to have good endings. How would this do: and they all settled down and they live together happily ever after?"
"It will do well,if it ever comes to that," said Frodo.
"Ah!" said Sam."And where will they live? That's what I often wonder".
"Nai hiruvalyë Valimar. Nai elyë hiruva.
Maybe thou shalt find Valimar. Maybe even thou shalt find it".
