Not my last words, but those of the audience. One audience member tied
Shippey's talk in to the work of the man being honoured by the conference,
Richard Blackwelder. Blackwelder was an entomologist — a renowned specialist in
beetles, in fact. J.B.S. Haldane, when asked what we could learn about God by
studying nature, responded that God appeared to have "an inordinate fondness
for beetles." Perhaps, the audience member (perhaps someone knows who it was?)
said, "the Creator had an an inordinate interest in
words."
