Arwen’s mother was Celebrian, the wife of Elrond, the daughter of Galadriel and
Celeborn. In 2509 of the Third Age, she journeyed from Rivendell to Lorien, but
was captured by orcs while traversing the Redhorn Pass. She was tormented by
the orcs, receiving a poisoned wound before being rescued. Less than a year
later, she left Elrond and departed over the Sea to Elvenhome. Her sons fought
the orcs with especial vigor and hate thereafter. In the Tale of Years, this
was the same time that the Rohirrim moved south and were granted Celenadhon by
Gondor. Five hundred years were still to pass before the years of the War of
the Ring.
