than many of the stories in the Sil, which I think is why it resonates with the reader.  Thingol is exposed as a grasping, single-minded person who would ignore his daughter's happiness in pursuit of a silmaril.  The love story of Thingol and Melian is sterile; this one is rich with emotion.  And as Curious said, it has a moral lesson, which previous stories in the Sil do not.

I hope to be around more this week, if my clients would only cooperate and leave me alone!
