That's what you seemed to be recalling -- that there are only 2 or 3 (or 7, or
whatever, depending on who you listen to) different plots in existence.
Yes, I believe Tolkien and Lewis were trying to remind people that all stories
are about what it is to be human. But more than that, they just happened to
believe that the Christian story is THE story from which all variations are
derived, and they were trying to remind people of exactly what it really is to
be human, because many people don't recognize or acknowledge that reality. They
were trying to explain or describe or simply tell that one true story in
as many ways as possible, to reach as many people as
possible.
