Not necessarily. The sons of Fëanor are bad news, and it's to Thingol's
credit that he recognizes this, independently of Melian's scoop. I don't
necessarily see that Melian is advising Thingol of something he can do anything
about other than what they're doing already (arming themselves, being wary of
the Noldor, and erecting the "girdle").
Both Melian and Thingol seem to have gotten the idea, which they now see is
dead wrong, that the Noldor had been sent by the Valar to help fight
Morgoth. Did the Noldor actually say this, or were M&T jumping to
conclusions? (Or did I miss something, which is entirely possible!)
It seems that Melian's prophecy that there's nothing the Eldar can do to
recover the Silmarils implanted in Thingol's head the ideea that it's an
impossible task to recover them, which turns out to be not entirely
correct.
