"Galadriel his sister went not with [Finrod] to Nargothrond, for in Doriath
dwelt Celeborn, kinsman of Thingol, and there was great love between them.
Therefore she remained in the Hidden Kingdom, and abode with Melian, and of her
learned great lore and wisdom concerning Middle-earth." (Chapter 13)
Melian probably shared the knowledge in her now out-of-print book, "Men are
from Middle-earth, Women are from Valinor".
Seriously, if Galadriel's still thinking she wants to rule a realm (and man) of
her own, she is in the right place to get good advice on the subject.
She knows there'll be huge trouble when Thingol finds out about the Kinslaying
and the theft of the Swan Ships. Perhaps she'll be driven out of Doriath.
Perhaps she would be separated from
Celeborn.
