Question:  Song as a creative force?
Message:

Greetings all,

I just started reading the Sil for the first time (and I am enjoying it immensely).  While reading the Ainulindalë, I was particularly intrigued by Tolkien’s use of the song of the Ainur as the means for the creation of Arda.  It reminded me of Aslan singing Narnia into creation.

Considering their friendship, I doubt that it was a coincidence that both Tolkien and Lewis wrote about the creation of their worlds through song.  So, my questions are:  Do you think that this is something that was discussed between them or the Inklings?  Do you have any insights as to why they may have gravitated toward this means of creation?  Do you feel particular drawn to song as a creative force?  Why or why not?

Hope I’m not dredging up an old topic.  If so, point me to a link.  Hopefully I can catch up with you guys in the next week or so and join the discussion!

Thanks!
Imani
