Subject:
Red book, what an interesting question
Message:

I hadn't really thought about the sharing of knowledge as a 'gift' in the same sense. Looking at Bilbo's teaching reading and writng to Sam, the gift of the book from Bilbo to Frodo and from Frodo to Sam and so on would be interesting indeed.

This might have some impact on Aragorn's comment to Bilbo about the cheek of making a song about Earendil and Elwing in Rivendell, too. Giving a gift of something which belongs to somebody else?

I'll go away and think a bit more too. Look forward to your comments.
