these words: "blew, flute, ewe, clue, through." How are "hoot" and
"you" different from one another?
That's a challenge I've always had with Tolkien's LotR appendices: he
naturally uses British pronounciations when providing reference points for his
Elvish sounds. But I need an audio-recording!
Wait, as I've just been typing, I caught a passing Australian here at the
office! (And I didn't even need a net.) The difference appears to
be that I pronounce "tuna" as "toona" but she pronounces it as "tyoona."
So you were comparing the entire word "you" to the vowel sound in "hoot?"
Does that "sound"
right?
