Nothing really story related in here, just some mention of the technical
aspects, so you're all forewarned.
Starting tomorrow (Monday), I will be posting a minimum of 3 discussions per
day (I average 3-4, but I may go as high as 6). There will be at least one
literary/technical discussion, one geared more towards Silmarillion beginners,
and one geared more towards a more intermediate level.
I rarely respond to the discussion, unless there is something I feel I need to
clarify or add, so don't feel you're being ignored. I like to let the
discussion flow as it will without too much nudging from me.
I skip around a lot, pulling various pieces throughout the text (including some
bits from chapters that aren't in the discussion-if they are relevant to the
text). As such, I ignore any potential spoilers for later material, so
apologies in advance to first-time readers who may get spoiled.
The main focus will be on Feanor and the Silmarils, but I will touch briefly on
the other key elements in the chapters. Open Discussion will be posted either
relatively early on Friday, or late Thursday night, so there should be plenty
of opportunity to for someone to add their questions if I didn't cover them.
One last note. I consider Feanor in a very positive light. I know most posters
don't. I will make one of my discussion points specifically about whether
Feanor is hero or villain; I would ask that any comments you wish to make along
those lines be posted within that discussion. I feel it would detract from the
other points by continuing to bring up Feanor's heroic/villainous qualities
over and over again.
Thanks all! Looking forward to a fun week of discussion. And special thanks to
all the previous discussion leaders for taking on the early chapters of the
Sil-not an easy task.
Inferno.

I'd like you to take the time to learn the Babylon 5 mantra: Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. *And*, if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out!
