...where I rush into the Reading Room, late for class, and realize that today
the teacher is giving a closed-book quiz and I forgot to buy the course
textbook, and don't even know the subject of the course I'm taking...
Kidding! My quiz answers are below--I had to look them up since I am
still very unfamiliar with all the names and places. *looks embarrassed*
But first, I just wanted to say how I found myself sighing with wonder over the
beauty of many of the passages in these two chapters (here are three of my
favorites):
- The light of Aman shining in the face of Melian as Thingol
looks upon her in her forest glade for the first time, and the spell of
enchantment that held them motionless, while the stars wheeled overhead and the
trees grew tall around them.
- The light streaming through the Calacirya, so that flowers bloomed on the
western shore of the Lonely Isle.
- Swans pulling the white ships of the Teleri, and ships made in the likeness
of swans, with beaks of gold and eyes of gold and jet.
These chapters have contained so much for my mind’s eye to feast
on. It almost made up for the confusing geneology and having to
keep track of those darn wandering elven tribes!
Thanks for leading the discussions this week, Entmaiden. I’m so happy to
have the RR, so that I can follow along with the conversation while I discover
all this Tolkien goodness. =)

I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.
