Well, sort of. I'm writing a fanfic ... well it was a "novella", but now it's
40,000 words and only halfway (published serially online) I think it's a novel.
It has some elements you describe, particularly an Egypt-like setting and one
of the blue wizards. But being a Hobbit fan, it's got Pippin as the main
character, sort of like Bilbo got roped into the Quest for Erebor.
It started off as a lark, but it's growing. I don't know if it's properly a
sequel; all it has to do with the Ring War is the experiences that make my
hero, Pippin at 41. I suppose I was inspired to make a Hobbit-like adventure;
hobbit goes off on an adventure that takes him into the midst of events of
which he'd never dreamed. Anyway, the tale is growing in the telling, but it
isn't what I'd call a straight-up
"sequel".
