Yes, Tolkien did seem fairly firm in his belief (if that's the right word) that
Dwarf-women had beards. I wonder if it's simply that he thought people would
laugh at the notion, and he didn't want to expose his Dwarves to scorn.
I'm thinking that Dwarven hormonal systems are very different from
ours.
