1. Poor Lodgings in Exile:
It's not Khazad-dum and it's not Erebor. Those names are written in Thorin's
heart, and Ered Luin is a poor substitute from his POV. He's a sojourner there,
rather than feeling truly at home.
2. What Help: What does Gandalf want with Thorin?
He wants to get rid of Smaug before Sauron can make use of the dragon. Perhaps
he also wants to help bring about the restoration of Erebor and Dale.
3. Heart of Gandalf: What does Gandalf think about Dwarves?
Gandalf has a gift for loving. I'm sure he finds Dwarves infuriating at times,
but I'm equally sure that he values their qualities of loyalty, endurance and
honesty, to name but three.
4. What do you know about Bard of Dale? Is he as much a hero as he sounds? Is
he honorable? Is he fierce-some?
I think he's a sort of proto-Aragorn. He's the rightful heir of an
all-but-forgotten line. He looks grim and forbidding, but is brave, honourable,
and noble in the best
sense.
