Sam's song in Cirith Ungol has always seemed to be the heart of the book, along
with his thoughts about the star in Mordor: hope in the midst of
darkness.
I also love "Horns, horns, horns of the north, wildly blowing." A
wonderful "eucatastrophe" moment. And Sam waking in Ithilien "But then I
thought I was dead myself. Is all that's sad going to come untrue?"
On a less exalted plane, I love and often quote the hobbit proverbs like "Do
not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger"
and "short cuts make long delays." And of course the priceless "I don't
know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of
you half as well as you
deserve."

"Stop gushing about the movie! You aren't allowed to!...The Lord of the Rings films are for people like ME to love! WE memorized the books! WE made the websites! WE drew the detailed maps of Osgiliath on our binders." --Bill Amend, Foxtrot
