Lorien was assaulted by Dol Guldur 3 times. Galadriel is strong in defence, as
Christopher Tolkien writes in UT. The Elves couldn't do anything proactive in
ME, but they were able to defend. And defend they did. Later Celeborn and
Galadriel thrash Dol Guldur- you need an army for that!
Lorien is the heart of Elvendom on Earth, as the Elves say. Rivendell and the
Havens have spiritual and tactical significance, but Lorien is literally a
mini-Elvenhome thanks to Nenya and its captains will defend it to the last.
Mirkwood is also a mini-Doriath, and the Elves there have been fighting evil
for
centuries.
There is but one task remaining in Arda-we,the Dragons of Valinor will make it happen.
