Supposedly, the fungus likes soils with calcium sulfate or calcium borate, with
an alkaline pH. Are there any kinds of geological conditions that produce
that kind of soil? Are there any kinds of volcanoes that spit that stuff
out (I always think of volcanic gases as including sulfurous compounds)?
Or do you know if there are any industrial/manufacturing conditions that
produce those kinds of salts (e.g. could they have been put out by Sauron's war
machine)?
