I had forgotton about that one. I lived in Tucson for 2 years, got
pneumonina, and got tested for VF (geologists get it, it's an occupational
hazard), but it was a regular old PN. Didn't it used to be called
coccidiomycosis?
By the way, the reason it is found only here and there is that the fungus is
partial to only a few soil types, so it is not found uniformly in endemic
areas. Mass grading of housing tracts in Tucson was a big problem
for awhile, because it raised huge clouds of
dust.
