I was just wondering if there was any significance to the twilight arrival of
the bridal party. They came dressed in finery (gems in hair, stars on
brow), clearly intending to look their best, and it's not unreasonable to
assume that they timed their arrival to show them at their best
advantage. Is there any symbolic significance that the elves are a people
who look best in twilight?
And, skipping ahead a page (sorry if this is a protocol violation), how does
that jive with Gimli's assertion that the Morning will soon pass away
forever? Given that the elves are soon to pass from middle earth,
wouldn't that make the elves the people of morning, and humankind a "twilight"
people? Did Tolkien believe we are in our twilight?
And is there any symbolic significance to a marriage on Midsummer's
day?
