Your guess is as well considered, and likely true, as any I could dream
up. All the more to admire about Frodo for resisting it. Does make
me wonder even more about those, what was it, 17 years with the ring before the
journey began. Do you suppose he related his thoughts during that time
period at all to the ring since he had thought it was an ordinary ring?
Bilbo didn't connect the dots as I recall. Makes me admire both for not
acting on those impulses that must have seemed their
own.
