This is a book written by Joseph Campbell, and it discusses the common threads,
if you will, in mythology and in particular, the hero's journey or "monomyth".
You will find that there are certain themes or occurrences within all religions
and mythology; in comparing perhaps Jesus with Aragorn, or Buddah with an Incan
creation myth, all of these stories have steps along the way that the hero must
encounter. I strongly suggest reading the book and others by Campbell, and
there are many resources online also which help illustrate this. It's really
interesting once you research this subject how many stories and religions are
really not that
different.
