and this having spent much of my youth as a card carrying atheist. The place the story resonates the most is the moment on the mountain when Frodo takes the Ring. Just like the story of Good Friday, you stand there and ask yourself in horror, "What good can come of this?" But good does come of it. Ahem - not making any claims about Jesus/Frodo, or any such nonsense. Just saying Tolkien was on to something with this eucatastrophe idea of his. "Well, I'm back," he said. The End.
