I just checked again; Legolas tells everything in the final version.
Interestingly, in the draft (War of the Ring = History of
Middle-earth, vol. VIII, Pp. 406-407, Gimli does actually narrate a great
deal of the story. Apparently, when Tolkien transferred some of the
material and then let Legolas tell the rest in "The Last Debate," he forgot to
adjust
accordingly.
