is that for all the agony and courage this decision requires of Sam... he makes
the wrong decision. Does that change your feeling about Sam "coming of
age?" Was it necessary for Sam to walk away from Frodo? (...for reasons
other than the fact that only one hobbit can be made invisible by the Ring and
hide from passing orc patrols)
I recall rooting for Sam to hole up with Frodo for a few
hours ("He might get better!"...I'm very good at denial) even though a bigger
part of me was sure that the book would end with Sam finishing the quest
alone.
