Message:
1) There is always the sense that the Ring has a will of its own, and will at times either betray its bearer or force the bearer to do something they normally wouldn't do. Here, at the seat of the Witch-King's power, the Ring does seem to act on its own. 2) Sam the Steady here, always looking out for poor Mr. Frodo. And as others have said, Gollum above all else does not want the Ring to fall into Sauron's hands. So both help Frodo turn away from the lure of Minas Morgul.
