anything. I was just a bit shocked that Sam might choose an image that could
possibly be hurtful to Frodo. It would put the blame for his parents' death on
the fact that they ventured into the river or did not handle it well. (if the
river isn't "to blame" then the hobbits are) I agree that Sam's own
trepitdation about water seems the first motivation for the comment, but heck,
if I were talking to someone whose parents had drowed in a river, I think I
might have found a different
simile.
