Avoiding it as completely as I can
Message:

It isn't possible, but I  want to be as memory free as possible for the film.  I had just re-read FOTR before the film and my mind WOULD NOT stop shouting comparisons to me during the initial screening.  I wasn't able to see the film at all until screening #2 or #3.

TTT went much better for me.  I plan to dive back in to the series as sooon as the ROTK is movie viewing history (Dec. 18).

In the meantime I am enjoying all the perephial Tolkien writing (Sil, Lost Tales) like never before. They don't encroach on my movie experience and in fact enhance it. Anybody else in this boat?
