Theoden has to build up his courage and regain his composure. I don't see him as weakening, but rather as trying to supress his rage and find the appropriate manner in which to cut down Saruman and regain the upper hand in the verbal exchange. ************************ "All wizards should have a hobbit or two in their care..."
