It's almost as if the Rohirrim who first sang that song had no hope that his
people would ever regain the glory of Éorl, and that the days of union with
Gondor are over. Therefore not only is it apt (as NZ said) that it's recited by
the returning king of Gondor, it's also apt that it's recited by someone named
Hope. Almost like a sign that glory will soon return to the Rohirrim, amid much
sadness.
