I do not know of any plant that blooms year-round in a 4-season climate.
Annuals bloom, set seed and die in one season. Perennials bloom for a short
period of usually one to six weeks in a year. Biennials grow vegetatively for
the first year, then blossom and set seed in the second year. Plants that
thrive in cool weather wilt and go dormant in the heat, while the opposite is
true of those who are summer-bloomers. Tolkien's general knowledge of flowers
leads me to assume this is a symbolic element.
The people on this board are constantly educating me, though. Does anyone else
know of a real-world plant like
symbelmyne?
