why wouldn't Gandalf send Pippin visions? It makes perfect sense. I've never been
quite sure until now, but Tolkien's wording suggests that Gandalf did send Pippin
the vision.
- Aragorn bending over the trail and running is referred to as
"unbidden"-- something put into Pippin head.
- The thought to run off the trail "leaped" into Pippin's
mind. A thought not his own? Possibly...
