were literal translations, with no attempt at rhyme or meter. It kind of
killed them, but it would have taken a huge effort to try to render them in
verse, so I see why they did that.
The Hobbit had a different translator, and I thought it was more charming,
though I can't put my finger on it. Gollum's phrase was tranlated "Mi
preciossa" in El Hobbit, and "Mi tesoro" in ESDLA. Maybe more accurate,
but not as
sibilant.
