too bad about appendices
Message:

Glad you got through it, that should give you a new perspective on Tolkien.  It is interesting, and disapppointing, that they cut out most of the appendices.  Is it a post-2001 edition that perhaps put the Arwen story in mainly because of the film?  The appendices are so much a part of the good Professor's conception of the novel since they give so many timelines and other crucial bits of backstory available nowhere else (particularly when there was no Sil or other writings on the market).  I wonder if other translations make similar edits.  I've wanted to read LOTR in French, but I think the good Professor would grumble given his typically British attitudes towards all things Gallic.  Given his incessant moaning about the French food served at the Oxford colleges, I bet he'd have a fit if they translate good old English hobbit fare like chips and rabbit stew into "pommes frites" and "ragout de lapin"! :-)

Out of curiosity, what is the Spanish tranlation of "ringwraith"?  That's a very peculiar word with lots of etymological history behind it.
