From the quote from Tulkas before the second (of 3) confrontation(s) with
Melkor:

it seems that the Valar/Maiar can indeed recover from their exploits - it just
takes a very long time! This second confrontation with Melkor was "long ages"
after their last major event, at Melkor's destruction of the Lamps, when they
were also
resting...
