I always figured it was directly chiseled from the mountain. But perhaps it's
made of a superior Dwarven alloy of mithril and stone.
Or maybe *that's* what they did with all those tailings...melted and fused them
into a span of incalculable strength. No wonder Gandalf's staff
broke.
