One word answer

(okay, two):  They're orcs.

I'm not even goind to delineate, because the answer would be the same for each one.  BUT....do you know what gave it away?  Your quote.  It may be too early, and it may be that I'm so warped from planning the semester that I no longer know what I'm talking about, but when Tolkien writes:  "Aragorn smote to the ground the captain that stood in his path..." I know ususally the relative pronoun "who" is used when referring to people (vs. "that"), so these are less than people (and don't give me the "class" rule, because it mucks up my argument).  So they're less than people.  THey're orcs.

Not all those who wander are lost.
