In "The Breaking of the Fellowship," as Frodo is trying to slip away all alone,
Sam arrives at the riverbank just in time to see the boat sliding down the bank
and slipping into the water all by itself. So, the boat does not turn invisible
when Frodo touches it, although his clothing, weapon, pack, etc. do. I don't
really know what this means, but I think I have to go along with Acthalion's
"mind control" theory. The implications of a person turning physically
invisible are just too complex for
me.
